Tombs frustration
Is it just me or it it extremely hard to get into a team in Tombs? It is like a vicious circle! I can get to rank 3 cause I cant get into a team, and I cant get into a team cause I'm not rank 3 !!!
I'm proficient with almost every character, yet ppl wont take me. The only groups I ever get into is IWAY. But IWAY is boring cause they can never win in HoH. Is my experience only unique to me, or you guys are having the same problem?
Is there any tips you can give me for getting into groups? Is there a particular character class that is in demand the most?? I thought it was a monk.. But ppl wont take even my monk.
I thought ppl in tombs have a common goal: to gather a team, fight, and have fun!! So why is it such a huge problem to get a team going?

Yeah, i had a similar problem.
I didnt pve much since it sucked hard, so once stuff like air spike came around handing out fame to the idiots I fell behind, since i didnt have the skills unlocked (apart from occasionally going monk fi boon premade).
Once faction came into play i was too far behind in terms of fame to now get a group, and since i dont have a guild im not going to get any that way.
All in all it just flags up that fame is a random 'time played' addition that has no use besides annoying people like me.
Encouraging elitism doesnt seem what anet wanted, but among 90% of the people i talk to its just that (/fame spammer type people). I understand that some people think its pretty or something, but frankly either introduce performance based stats which define rank or get rid of it.

100% agreed
Also it would be nice if Anet divised some kind of system that automatically matches players to teams according to their fame amount. Once the team is assembled it would be matched in tombs to a team of similar skill level. NOT some team that has much more fame.

That's all well and good when your guild is made up of RL friends who are still taking their first/second characters through the PvE game while you have completed with 2 and almost completed with 2 more...
I agree some kind of match-up system would be great, though I have no idea how they would implement it, and how, when there are 10 groups waiting for that last monk, which group that monk gets assigned to when he says he's now available!!

Ehh... the monk.. that what I didnt think of....
Oh and about the guild.. no matter which guild I get into... They are either uber noobs who dont even know where tombs is... or they are too busy to play.. EVER. I'm busy too but one can find 1-2 days a week to play. If one cant, why bother playing at all?
"get a guild, join your guild group" --- anyone want to take me into their rank3, competent, mature guild??? No?? Heh.. didnt think so.
PS: Aww.. c'mon.. why not?? I'm good. Heh let me guess the answer is NO!!

This is the number 1 complaint to players new in PvP. The biggest frustration I have with inexperienced players, is not that they don't know how to use their skillbar (well a lot of time they don't), it's that they don't understand the maps.
So I suggest, do IWAY, farm out your 180 fame to R3, get use to the maps, understand relic runs, res orbs, alter holding, claim resource etc.
Then when you get to R3, you'll get into different groups running better builds, and you won't be a liability. And do it by playing necro.

Glenn you seem like a very experienced player. Why don't you take him on a group when you do tombs?

thats sounds nice but who wants to do IWAY over and over till fame 3, doing that will probably make u not want to pvp anymore lol. Yes it does suck when ppl only want r3, but some of them arent good either just because your rank 3, u have no xp in much cause u were prob doing first couple round matches. Most of the ones that take the time to pick ppl no matter what rank are good and win. I say get all the skills for your professions, that way anyone can take u cuase your more flexible and diverse in what u can do

yeah but now days to even get in an iway group you need to be rank 3 lol. Basically new pvpers are just usually ignored becuase of thier lack of rank. It also affect the poeple like me who dislike the fotm and farming fame like that. But it forces you to since you have to get the rank to get the group lol. Now to decide to break down and join an iway group. *signs* (only 47 more fame till rank 3) I mean the rank idea is good but i have only come across 1 crippling noob on my teams and it WAS A RANK 3. Said he was a fast cast rezzer lol, and he only brought rez sig assumming he was a resmer (mes/mo)(which he was so we didnt no ahead of time). But it is becoming really hard to pvp without the rank 3.

I'm just saying, that I can see how frustrating it is for unranked players. You see their spamming frustration all the time in local channel. Obviously they aren't in guilds that are trying to run builds in tombs.
When you're starting in tombs you need to really to learn the maps, and I'm saying fotm builds may be the best way to get in to a team and learn that. Or start your team.
I started a whacked out build the other week in international and spammed for players where rank wasn't a consideration and got a heap of whispers, so obviously those players are there waiting for invites.

I feel your pain. Like Rii said, there's a great deal of elitism going on in tombs, IMO This is partially due to the fame system, and also because most people are very picky about who they allow to join as a result of their past experiences.
I spent quite a long time trying to get to rank 3, about 5-6 weekends worth of playing. I've been lucky enough to have played with patient r3+ players on my way there, especially given that my guild mainly plays PvE. A few things help show that you're a decent player, ie letting group leaders know your skillbar when you whisper them asking for an invite. In some cases they won't take you if you're not the right rank, but you never know some of them do give you a shot at it. Also don't blindly invite yourself without a whisper and don't accept blind invites either, 90% of blinds lead to a poorly organised PUG.
As for builds and classes that are useful in tombs, there are numerous build discussions on this forum that I've found really useful. Practice new builds in arenas until you're used to them before using them in tombs.
Good luck with it.
EDIT: I'd love to hear more experienced PvPers' advice on this thread.

I agree. this game is supposed to be about skill, not time played, but even someone who has played 700+ hours can'tget a tomb group. This is annoying and Anet hasn't even tried to do anything yet. A quick solution until a permanent one can be implemented might be to nerf iway to make it suck. Then maybee until Anet could get apermanent solution people like me who hate iway or other groups that exclude people who haven't played thousands of hours could find a group.

As was already mentioned, it's a good idea to browse around in the Glad forum and get a picture of what kind of skills and combinations work out, and try forming a group yourself. But you really need to join a FOTM build first just to get the hang of the maps.
I think it's easiest to get into groups via monking, but that's my personal experience and I'm not sure if it's the same now, seeing as there are so many monks around now.
If you're joining a team, it's a good idea to ask the leader what skills you should be bringing, and also (probably your best chance of being accepted to a group) get Teamspeak or Ventrilo, even if you don't have a mic. You'll listen to what other people are talking about in terms of tactics and (for monks) calling healing seeds and hex removal, and use the same communication when the time comes that you want to lead a party yourself.
I remember one of my first few games, I joined a random PUG without any voice communication, but we still managed to beat 2 or 3 teams and made a couple of friends, added them to my list, and have kept in touch with them since then. Making friends and playing with them regularily basically doubles up the chance you'll get in a team, because if your friend is in a group and that group is looking for someone, he can say 'oh I have this friend, he's good', and they won't be too fussed about rank (my experience is they don't ask at all then).
It's very slow in the beginning, but once you start 'networking' in tombs, the ball starts rolling
Good luck

Well see that's the problem. How can I ever learn the maps if before rank 3, I always get into cpappy teams, and we die so fast, that I dont even get a chance to study the map. And even if we win, I have no idea what that map is all about. There's always a leader who says something like "dont worry I got this. I'll get sprint and I'll get altar/orb/etc. So no one else in the team gets to learn anything except trying to beat the other team by brute force.
I know that you're still right, and probably by the time I'm rank 3, I'll learn the maps one way or the other. But hey.. it's jsut me whining and bitching.

It took me 180 hours to make rank 3 (not a fun experience!). I'm not far past the 180 fame right now, but in the time it took to get rank 3 I learned:
1. Ask R3+ groups to join (be patient), act mature, and list your skill bar. Often, if they can't find anyone, they'll accept you (of course, this is going to be harder if you're playing something fairly common, like a healing monk or W/R :-P)
2. Start your own group
3. If possible, look for a guild group (although TBH, I never had any success with the guilds I was in, despite being with multiple top 200 groups like The Embassey and Urban Vitality).

i find that you can start rank 3+ groups even if your only rank 0-2
i dont do this but i have a few good friends that take me when they go because they were in a group i started and they saw that i was acctually better than a lot of rank 3 from iway players
so, start a group but know what your doing
oh and by the way...does anyone know whats up with the rank 3+ regular iway? if it was modded i might be able to understand...but rank 3+ regular? :/
